The Luck of the Irish
On August 15th, 2009 a new Guinness World RecordTM was set in the Republic of Ireland. Set back only slightly by damp conditions, 175 combines with straight headers took to the field simultaneously and in 15 minutes the harvesting of 140 acres was complete. Through the efforts of the organizers, sponsors, and farmers 300,000 Euros (approx. $450,000) was raised for charity. We want to congratulate them on their hard work; we know how difficult and time consuming it can be to set up an event like this.
Please check out the video of the record, as well as other information about their world record, at www.combines4charity.com .
Thanks to the generous people of Ireland for their hard work, and for giving us an existing record to break. We hope to surpass their number of combines harvesting simultaneously as well as match or surpass the amount of money raised for charity.
Be sure to keep coming back to our website as we plan to post more new and exciting things as the harvest date approaches. Remember you can follow us on Twitter and on our World Harvest for Kids 2010 facebook fan page and don’t forget to spread the word about Harvest for Kids to everyone you know.
